The Hong Kong Liaison Office is set up to provide support from and representation of the international free trade union movement in Hong Kong (SAR), monitor socio-economic, political and trade union developments and ensure a good two-way flow of information to and from the Hong Kong trade union movement.
The principal tasks of the Office are to:
- implement the Hong Kong Office programmes and policies as decided upon by the Board of Directors. The Board comprises representatives of the Hong Kong affiliates, the ICFTU, ICFTU-APRO and GUF. A local Management Committee comprising of representatives from the Hong Kong affiliates oversees the execution of the programmes and reports and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors;
- promote international liaison and co-operation between democratic unions in Hong Kong and the international trade union movement;
- inform the international trade union movement on developments in China, including Hong Kong and Macau;
- work out proposals for international action for the benefit of the independent and democratic unions in Hong Kong, including through local and international meetings and training sessions.
